Bluemels Fender Set for 24 Wheels (1.0-1.9 Tire Width)
When selecting a fender, it is crucial to consider the wheel and tire size. Fender sizes are determined by these two factors, so it is important to know your wheel size and tire width. You can find your wheel size on the tire wall - road bikes and urban bikes typically have 700c or 28" wheels, while mountain bikes are usually 29" (29er), 27.5", or 26". Smaller wheels are 20" or 24".
The fender profile needs to be at least 5mm wider than the tire width, which can also be found on the tire wall. SKS Germany fenders have the profile width in the name (e.g., B55 is 55mm wide).
Bluemels fenders are bolt-on, meaning they are not easily or quickly removed once installed. This provides more coverage and stability as they are affixed to the frame with bolts. Quickrelease fenders are a different setup.
When selecting a fender, ensure the profile width can fit through the frame. The fender must be narrower than the distance between the seat stays or fork legs.
Mounting Bluemels fenders requires eyelets or frame/fork mounting clamps, which can be purchased separately if your bike doesn't have them. The metal stays included with the fenders may need to be shortened for a proper fit.
Tools required for installation include a 7mm and 8mm wrench, a 4mm allen key, a measuring tape, and a hacksaw or bolt cutters. The full installation should take around two hours and requires basic mechanical experience.
Bluemels fenders feature a safety release system for the front fender, allowing the struts/stays to be easily uncoupled if debris gets caught between the tire and fender.
Bluemels fenders are available for 20", 24", 26", and 700c/28"/29er wheels. They are lightweight and durable, made with SKS Germany's "sandwich" technology of aluminum foil coated in plastic. The fenders come in shiny black with black hardware and stays, or silver with silver hardware and stays.
Additional adapters may be needed to mount the fenders on a Suntour or Rockshox fork. Shims are included for use with disc brakes. The rear fender has a cutout at the bottom bracket for easier mounting, and mudflaps can be added to extend the coverage.
