Bluemels fenders are bolt-on, meaning they are not easily or quickly removed once installed. This provides more coverage and stability, as they are affixed to the frame with bolts. Quickrelease fenders are a different setup.
When selecting a fender, it is important to consider the frame spacing. The fender profile must fit through the seat stays and fork legs of the bicycle. Going with a wider fender profile may seem better for coverage, but it must be able to fit within the frame.
Mounting Bluemels fenders requires eyelets or frame/fork mounting clamps, which are necessary for installation. The metal stays that are part of the fender mounting setup may need to be shortened for a proper fit.
All the required hardware for mounting Bluemels fenders is included, except for a 7 and 8mm wrench and a 4mm allen key. If the stays need to be shortened, a measuring tape and hacksaw or bolt cutters will be needed. The installation process typically takes around two hours and requires basic mechanical experience.
Bluemels fenders feature a safety release system for the front fender, allowing the struts/stays to be easily uncoupled if branches or other debris become caught between the tire and the fender.
Bluemels fender sets are available for 20", 24", 26", and 700c/28"/29er wheel sizes. These fenders are lightweight and durable, thanks to SKS Germany's "sandwich" technology of ultra-fine strips of aluminum foil coated in plastic. They are available in shiny black with black hardware and stays, and some sizes are also available in silver.
Additional adapters may be necessary to mount any fender set on a Suntour or Rockshox fork. The fender profile width must be able to fit through the seat stays and fork legs of the bicycle. Shims are included for use with disc brakes, and mudflaps are available to extend the fender profile coverage.
