SKS, a renowned manufacturer in the bicycle industry, has been keeping bikes rolling for over 100 years. The company's history can be traced back to 1921 when Karl Scheffer-Klute of Sundern, Germany, began producing curtain rods. In 1932, the company was acquired by Wilhelm Blome, who also purchased a tire inflator company, inspiring him to start manufacturing metal pumps.
Today, SKS is recognized for its expertise in manufacturing pumps and bicycle fenders, as well as a wide range of accessories for bikes, including pumps, fenders, bags, tools, digital pressure gauges, bottle cages, cage adapters, and even phone holders. All SKS products are designed and manufactured in Sundern, Germany, ensuring the highest quality and innovation for years to come.
The Future is Orange
SKS Germany employs a workforce of 400 people at its bicycle headquarters in Sundern and over 700 employees across its three combined divisions. The company's bicycle business consists of 43% aftermarket product sales and 32% OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) product sales.
Annually, SKS Germany produces 4.5 million full fenders, 2 million clip-on fenders, and 1.2 million bicycle pumps, totaling over 18,000 fenders and 3,200 pumps per day.
Revamping the Classics
In 2022, SKS revamped its full fender line, replacing the classic Chromoplastic Longboard and Commuter II fenders with the new Bluemels and Bluemels Style fenders. Both models are made using the same chromoplastic fender material, but the Bluemels now come with black hardware and are available in more sizes than before.
The Bluemels Style fenders feature a square profile design, double U Stay technology, a matte black finish, and a sleek, flexible spoiler on the front and rear fender.
